One way I will act differently after this class is I will work to make more of an effort to halt effects of climate change in any way I can as an individual. Many of the advocacy projects I read from classmates websites included negative effects on their animal of choice that ultimately came down to an effect of the current climate crisis. I believe we are around twenty years past the point where we could have stopped climate change, so I intend to focus on ways to lessen the effects of climate change or provide alternatives do the habitats and resources it destroys. This could involve planting native plants in my garden, properly recycling and monitoring my energy usage.
When I'm looking back at this class in the future, I will remember the ways we used social media for activism. I think that social media can be a powerful tool for putting ideas and movements out into the world as well as growing networks of likeminded people. It is important to use the most current methods of communication when getting an idea across in order to gain access to the largest audience and most engaged audience possible.
Throughout this quarter, one thing I struggled with was timing issues. I had a hard time pacing myself through the weekly assignments sometimes because of the online nature of this class, and I'm not usually one to turn in assignments late, but I did end up turning one in late in week 9. In the future I may stick to in person classes, and keep a tighter handle on my schedule. I also had problem focusing for long periods of time to write. I will work on this in the future by finding calm areas where I can focus on studying, which has been hard this year due to my living situation.
